Oh the ENERGY we get from Runner's High

Runner's high is an experience other anaerobic sports can feel too, like skiers, surfers, football players, wrestler's, and other anaerobic sports can all have "highs". Basically, endorphins are released by glands near your spinal cord during strenuous exercise. They work as natural pain relievers. When a nerve impulse reaches the spinal cord, endorphins are released which prevent nerve cells from releasing more pain signals. Immediately after "injury," endorphins allow us to feel a sense of power and control over ourselves and allow us to persist with activity. Studies have shown that after running endorphins produced during exercise attach themselves to areas of the brain that associate with emotions. So that's why I feel good when I'm done running :)
